Abstract
Nurses are being challengd to care for clients who are socially, politically, and economically disadvantaged. Contemporary nursing presents a practice model which guides nurses to begin choosing actions that seek to help people fight back from the depths of their despair, rather than to help people cope and adapt to their oppression.
Feminist theory and Parse¢¥s theory of Nursing Theory are consistent with above nursing trend. This study is a critique of Parse¢¥s Hu-man Becoming Theory and Practice Methodology on feminist perspectives. Also, this study supports the fact that Parse¢¥s theory is the origin of feminist perspectives and regards it as an important experience for women and relationship among the participants.
The results of the critique are summarized as follows : first, since Parse¢¥s theory puts great emphasis on people¢¥s subjective experiences, it carries great importance on women¢¥s experiences. Second, Parse¢¥s theory is consistent with feminist theory as to see the world from the vantage point of a particular group of human being.
Third, the purpose of Parse¢¥s theory is to improve the quality of life. The practice methodology developed from this theory¢¥s principles is the process and method that can achieve the purpose.
Fouth, Parse¢¥s theory puts importance on unity & relatedness of perception like the feminist theory. Fifth, since Parse¢¥s theory focuses on the quality of life which is recognized and reflected on the situational context of people, it is contextually oriented.
Sixth, Parse¢¥s theory puts emphasis on the subjective that values lived experiences. Seventh, Parse¢¥s theory emphasizes gender ideal-ism as it emphasizes ideal life that human being recognizes, chooses, and women and men respects.
In conclusion, Parse¢¥s Human Becoming Theory and Practice Methodology is the theory that is consistent with feminist perspectives. It puts emphasis on the quality of life of all the people including women. This theory can be applied not only in the community nursing practice but also in the places where nurse-client relationships occur, and be used effectively.
